Head Teacher's Welcome

Hello, and welcome to our school website. We hope it gives you a flavour of our school and the information that you need to know.

Hayfield is a local authority, specialist school that strives to bring the highest quality of teaching and learning to pupils with social communication needs/autism, (including some with mainstream ability), or to pupils with moderate learning difficulties, (often with additional needs). But most importantly, we ensure that every child is respected and treated as an individual.

We try our very best to see the world as the child sees it, and work from their starting point. We have had National Autistic Society Accreditation for over ten years and our last OFSTED inspection rated us Good with Outstanding practice in our Early Years base. Currently children need to have a, Education Health Care Plan to be considered by Wirral Authority for a place at Hayfield.

We use a variety of approaches to ensure the children learn to the best of their ability, within a caring and close knit community. We provide structure, and routine.

We provide an eclectic mix of specialist approaches, including looking at children’s sensory and emotional needs. We provide an interesting and exciting curriculum, that we hope enables children to grow up with skills for life, as part of a local, national, and global community.

Our most valued feature, is our warm and fun-loving ethos, and the inclusion of our whole school community. This includes our mid day assistants, our bus escorts, and other professionals such as our link paediatrician Dr Fellick, our school nurse and our speech therapists. Most importantly it includes our parents, carers, and families. As a parent noted in a School Survey, we are a school which has, “ A great balance between professionalism, experience, and a kind, human approach to children and their families”. As parents you usually know your child best. And working together we can do the very best we can. We encourage parents to keep in touch, and have an open telephone policy, as well as home school books for some children. We also have a flourishing and hard working, ‘Parent, Teacher and Friends’ Association’, that not only raise money, but provide valuable opportunities for staff and families to meet and socialise. We love to welcome current families and visitors to our school, and look forward to welcoming those of you visiting our site for the first time, if you feel that this may be the school for you also. So browse freely, and see what else Hayfield offers!
